Brass: an alloy consisting essentially of copper and zinc in variable proportions. Like gunmetal, brass ages naturally with time producing beautiful shades of gold.

Gold-filled: composed of a solid layer of gold bonded with heat and pressure, to a base metal.

Gunmetal: gunmetal is a dark gray-bluish or purple plating. Gunmetal changes with time, creating new hues and tints in the shading.

Facetted: this term is used in describing a stone. A stone can either be cut flat or have many angular cuts called facets.

Rhodium plate: Instead of silver-plating, at By the Stones we prefer this unique process because it gives colors a much longer life span and is a more durable corrosion-resistant coating.

Vermeil: gold-plating over sterling silver. To be considered vermeil, the gold used must be at least 10 carat (42%) and be a minimum thickness of 1.5 micrometres. Sterling silver covered with other metals is not considered vermeil.

**All of the above with the exception of brass are crafted for hypoallergenic skin types.

Due to the hand-made nature of our jewelry pieces, designs may vary slightly and may contain natural imperfections.
